Modern Islamic Guidance License & Permissions: open access AIM framework & commercial licensing

AIM — Free & Open

CC BY-NC-SA

AIM is free and open for non-commercial reuse. Try a free AIM pilot (CSV + memo) — support is optional and helps sustain translations, research, and free access.

Commercial reuse only via Patron Partnership (recorded in order confirmation)

Subscribe for implementation packs (CSV/Memos), or become a Patron to support the independent propagation of the AIM Framework.

Modern Islamic Guidance License makes the AIM framework freely available for non-commercial reuse while protecting practitioner-pack assets. This page explains what you may copy, translate, or adapt under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0, and when commercial or institutional permission is required. It also details member-only AIM Practitioner License terms, translation registration, attribution examples, and practical enforcement steps. Read the guidelines carefully before republishing or bundling content for paid use or seeking Patron Partnership support.

Knowledge as a Trust (Amanah): Why We License Our Work

Methodology (AIM) is a mission to translate classical heritage into measurable modern action. To ensure the theological integrity of these protocols and to keep this research independent of corporate or government agendas, we operate under a dual-licensing model. This protects the work from distortion while empowering practitioners and institutions to propagate the mission ethically.

3. Modern Islamic Guidance License: AIM Practitioner License — terms for member packs (full)

“This tier is for PERSONAL and NON-COMMERCIAL community use only. For commercial rights, see Section 8.”

The AIM Packs you download as a member are provided under a special license designed to:

  • allow practical, non-commercial use, including community teaching and translations for non-commercial use;
  • prevent commercial resale or repackaging of the original digital files;
  • require attribution and, for derivatives (translations/adaptations), release under ShareAlike and notification.

Core license terms (member packs)

  1. Grant of rights (to members):
While your AIM Practitioner membership is active, the Author grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable, limited license to use the Pack files for personal, educational, and non-commercial community purposes. That includes running N=1 experiments, using CSVs in your personal tracking, or printing memos for free community classes.
  2. Translation & derivative rules (packs):
Members may create translations or derivative adaptations of Pack content for non-commercial use only provided that all three conditions are met:
    • The derivative is licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 (or an AIM-approved equivalent non-commercial ShareAlike license).
    • The translator notifies the Author at [email protected] with title, link, and a 1-line summary.
    • The derivative includes the required attribution and a live link back to the original Pack and to this license page.
  3. Prohibitions (packs):
    • No commercial resale of the Pack files (ZIP, PDF, CSV, PNG, etc.).
    • No repackaging the Pack as a paid product, and no distribution of original Pack files in packaged form without written permission.
    • No sublicensing — you may not make Pack files available in a way that gives others rights beyond this license.
  4. Attribution (packs):
Each derivative or any public use must include the attribution text specified in Section 7 below and a link back to the original post.
  5. Termination / suspension: The AIM Practitioner License is enforceable for members who breach the license terms. In the event of an alleged breach, the Author will first issue a written notice describing the concern and allow a 14-day cure period for corrective action (for example: add required attribution, remove unauthorized distribution, or provide required translation notice). If the infringement is willful commercial exploitation (e.g., selling Pack files or offering them in paid courses), the Author reserves the right to suspend or revoke the Pack license and membership immediately and pursue further remedies. The Author prefers cooperative resolution and will aim to resolve disputes fairly.
  6. Limited warranty / liability:
Packs are provided “as is”. The Author disclaims all warranties to the extent permitted by law. See legal notice at the end of this page.
  7. Institutional / Commercial Licensing:
Commercial or institutional redistribution (paid courses, resale, print-on-demand, bundled sale, bulk distribution) included in Patron Partnership license.

4. Permitted uses — concrete examples

Articles (CC BY-NC-SA) permitted:

  • Translating an article into Urdu and publishing it on a mosque website, provided you attribute and license under CC BY-NC-SA.
  • Quoting portions of an article in a free PDF handout for a community class with attribution and link.

AIM Packs (member license) permitted:

  • A member printing CSV templates and memos to use with a free weekly study circle.
  • A member translating a 1-page Pilot Memo into Arabic for a free community handout, publishing it under CC BY-NC-SA, and notifying the Author.

5. Prohibited uses — concrete examples

  • Republishing an article or Pack as part of a paid e-book for sale.
  • Selling the original Pack ZIP files or offering them as part of a paid product without written permission without a Patron Partnership License.
  • Republishing a Pack, unchanged, as downloadable materials on another site and charging for access without a Patron Partnership License..
  • Removing attribution or claiming authorship of translated/adapted content without acknowledgement and link.

6. Translation & derivative publication policy (detailed workflow)

For public articles

  1. Translate/adapt article.
  2. Include the required attribution (author name, original article link).
  3. Publish derivative under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0.
  4. Optional: send a notification email to [email protected] with translator name, link, and description; the site may list approved translations.

For AIM Packs (members)

  1. Translate/adapt the Pack for non-commercial use.
  2. License your derivative under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0.
  3. Notify the Author at [email protected] with a title, link, and short description (one paragraph). The Author will record the translation in a public registry if acceptable.
  4. Include the full attribution (see Section 7) and include a link to the original Pack.

Notification requirement & cure period: Members must notify the Author within 30 days of publishing any public translation or adaptation of a Pack (email [email protected] with title, link, and a short description). Failure to notify will trigger a written notice and a 14-day cure period for correction. Persistent non-compliance or clear bad-faith commercial misuse may lead to suspension or revocation of Pack privileges. The Author will normally record approved translations in the public translations registry.

7. Attribution requirements (how to credit — copy/paste examples)

Minimum attribution elements (every reuse / translation / derivative must include):

  • Title of the original work (if applicable)
  • Author name: “Ahmed Alshamsy”
  • Source: link to the original article or Pack on ahmedalshamsy.com
  • License statement: name of license and link (e.g., “CC BY-NC-SA 4.0” with link)
  • If you translated/adapted: include “Translated/Adapted by [Translator Name]” and the derivative license.

Article reuse example (short):

“Hidden Narratives in Public Life” — Ahmed Alshamsy / Modern Islamic Guidance (https://ahmedalshamsy.com/en/hidden-narratives). Licensed CC BY-NC-SA 4.0.

Pack reuse example (translation derivative):

AIM Pack: “Quiet Morning Ritual” — Ahmed Alshamsy / Modern Islamic Guidance (https://ahmedalshamsy.com/en/quiet-morning-ritual). Original pack licensed AIM Practitioner License. Translation by [Translator Name], licensed CC BY-NC-SA 4.0.

Copy-and-paste citation (use this exact text):

**Article:**
`“[Article Title]” — Ahmed Alshamsy / Modern Islamic Guidance (https://ahmedalshamsy.com/en/[post-slug]). Licensed CC BY-NC-SA 4.0.`

**Pack translation:**
`AIM Pack: “[Pack Title]” — Ahmed Alshamsy / Modern Islamic Guidance (https://ahmedalshamsy.com/en/[post-slug]). Original pack licensed AIM Practitioner License. Translation by [Name], licensed CC BY-NC-SA 4.0.`

Place this attribution prominently at the start or end of the translated article/handout and include the license line in PDF metadata where possible.

Embed the link on prominent place (start or end of the article/handout) and include license line in PDF metadata where possible.

8. Professional & Institutional / commercial licensing (how to request and what to expect)

“Note: The Annually Patron Partnership acts as an exclusive Commercial Authorization to the standard Non-Commercial restrictions of our CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license. Only active Patrons are authorized to monetize or resell AIM-derived materials.”

For professional educators, mosques, and institutions, we offer a Commercial Authorizan via Patron Membership ($299 USD / Annually). This tier grants you the legal right to:

  • Resell AIM Packs as part of your own physical or digital booklets.
  • Bundle AIM CSVs and Pilot Memos into your paid online courses.
  • Distribute implementation assets to your students/audience behind your own paywall.

Requirement: All materials must maintain the original attribution: “Powered by Applied Islamic Methodology (AIM) — ahmedalshamsy.com”. [Get Your License].

Commercial Authorization options — Patron Partnership

This plan bundles mission support with defined commercial reuse rights:

  • What it includes: All Practitioner benefits (CSV templates, 1-page Pilot Memos, infographics, full archive access) plus a commercial license for up to 3 paid projects (books, paid courses, printed materials) with combined distribution of up to 10,000 copies / paid learners per year.
  • Rights: Non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable commercial reproduction rights for the licensed items and projects specified at checkout.
  • Price & signup: Patron Partnership — $299/year.

Commercial authorization is granted automatically to all active Patron Partners ($299/year). Your order confirmation serves as your digital record of this Authorization. No separate contract is required for standard institutional use.

This option gives individuals & institutions a clear pathway to license AIM materials for paid use while funding translations, outreach, and ongoing free access. For use cases exceeding 10,000 learners or custom enterprise needs, contact [email protected].

Active Status

Commercial rights are valid only while the Patron Partnership is Active. If the subscription expires, the right to distribute or sell new materials containing AIM assets is revoked immediately.

If in doubt: If your planned use involves payment, advertising revenue, institutional distribution, or resale — even partially — contact [email protected] before publication. We can usually offer a written permission or Patron Commercial Authorization to avoid accidental breach.

9.Technical provenance: a script that zips and writes manifest.

To maintain proof of creation and to help enforce our rights, every Pack includes:

Required files inside every {YYYY-MM-DD}-{post-slug}-aim-pack.zip

  • manifest.txt — list of included files and SHA256 checksums + generation timestamp. (See template below.)
  • readme.txt — the AIM Practitioner License text (the template saved in our memory).
  • The Pack files themselves: CSV, pilot-memo.pdfimplementation-map.txtexample-row.txt, optional PDFs/infographics.
  • aim-pack-id.txt (optional) — an internal unique pack identifier (e.g., AIM-2026-02-01-quiet-morning-001).

manifest.txt template

**Manifest (short sample)** — Included inside every AIM Pack:

manifest-version: 1
generated: 2026-02-01T10:00:00Z
post-slug: quiet-morning-ritual
files:
  - 2026-02-01-quiet-morning-aim.csv
  - 2026-02-01-quiet-morning-pilot-memo.pdf

(Full manifest & checksum examples and developer commands are available in Appendix A — download.)

File metadata:

  • PDF properties: Title = Post Title; Author = Ahmed Alshamsy; Subject = AIM Pack; Keywords = AIM, CSV, Pilot Memo; Copyright = © 2026 Ahmed Alshamsy; License = AIM Practitioner License (link).
  • PNG metadata: set Copyright and Description fields with license notice.

10. Enforcement, takedown, and dispute process

We aim to resolve all republication issues amicably. The process below details how potential infringements are handled.

Step 1 — detection & logging

If you suspect infringement (someone republishing or selling content), collect:

  • URL(s) of the offending content
  • Screenshots or archived copies (Wayback, PDF print)
  • The relevant original Pack manifest.txt and checksums (prove original authorship)
  • Any other evidence (transaction receipts, dates)

Step 2 — notice & takedown request (friendly first)

Send a friendly DM or email asking for removal or attribution. If unresolved proceed to Step 3.

Step 3 — formal takedown (DMCA or host contact)

Use the DMCA template below (adapt for local jurisdictional equivalents). Send to the host/ISP and the site owner.

DMCA Takedown template (copy-paste, edit [BRACKETED] fields):

Re: DMCA Takedown Notice — Unauthorized use of copyrighted material

I am the copyright owner (or an agent of the owner) of the material identified below. I have a good faith belief that the material identified below is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.

1. Description of copyrighted work: "AIM Pack: [Post Title]" originally published on https://ahmedalshamsy.com/en/[post-slug] on [date]. Manifest & checksums: see manifest.txt included in the original pack.

Step 4 — escalation

If the host fails to act, escalate to:

  • The platform (e.g., payment provider, marketplace) to stop monetization.

To promote lawful translations and to increase reach for dawa, the Site will maintain a public registry of approved community translations. When a translator notifies the Author (per Section 6) the site may, at the Author’s discretion, list the translation (link + metadata: language, translator, date) on a central translations index page. This helps users find authorized versions and strengthens provenance.

13. Versioning, updates and effective dates

  • This License & Permissions page is version 1.0 (Effective: 2026-02-02).
  • Any substantive change to licensing policies will be posted on this page with a clear version, effective date, and change log.
  • Existing published Packs remain governed by the license text included in their readme.txt at the time of generation. Future license changes do not retroactively alter previously issued Pack licenses unless explicitly stated.

14. FAQ

1. What license applies to public articles on Modern Islamic Guidance?

Public articles are licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 — you may copy, translate, or adapt articles for non-commercial purposes if you provide proper attribution and release derivatives under the same license.

2. Can I translate an article and publish it on my mosque website?

Yes — translate and publish for free under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0, include the required attribution and license line, and link back to the original article on ahmedalshamsy.com.

3. Are AIM Packs free to redistribute or sell?

No — AIM Packs are provided to members under the AIM Practitioner License and are not redistributable in original packaged form; commercial redistribution or resale requires a separate commercial license.

4. How do I publish a translation of an AIM Pack?

Members may translate Packs for non-commercial use if they license the derivative under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0, include required attribution, and notify [email protected] within 30 days so the translation can be registered.

5. What counts as “commercial use” under the license?

Commercial use includes selling the material, using it in paid courses, embedding it in paywalled/advertising-driven content, or bundling Pack files as a paid product. When in doubt, contact [email protected].

6. How should I credit or cite Modern Islamic Guidance content?

Use the copy-and-paste citation examples on this page. Example for an article: “[Article Title]” — Ahmed Alshamsy / Modern Islamic Guidance (https://ahmedalshamsy.com/en/[post-slug]). Licensed CC BY-NC-SA 4.0.

7. I want to use content in a book that will be sold. What should I do?

Request a commercial license by emailing [email protected] with the content, proposed use, distribution, and pricing details; licensing terms and fees will be negotiated per case.

8. What happens if someone republishes Packs without permission?

The Author prefers friendly resolution. For material breaches or commercial misuse, the Author can suspend membership, revoke Pack rights, and pursue takedown actions (DMCA or host complaints) supported by manifest and archive evidence.

9. How do I register a translation so it appears on your site?

Notify [email protected] with translator name, language, link, and a short description; approved translations will be listed in the public translations registry to increase discoverability.

10. Where can I find the full legal text for CC BY-NC-SA 4.0?

The complete legal text is on the Creative Commons website: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/. Read it before republishing or bundling content to ensure compliance.
